HCol David Macdonald Stewart, OC, KStJ, KCLJ

David Macdonald Stewart was appointed Honorary Colonel of The Queen’s York Rangers in 1973, serving until his death in 1984.

Stewart was Vice-Chairman of Macdonald Tobacco and President of the Macdonald Stewart Foundation. Like his wife, Liliane, he was a philanthropist and patron of the arts, sports and many other causes.

Among his many accomplishments, in 1955 he founded the Stewart Museum in the former British arsenal on Île Sainte-Hélène in Montreal. The museum later merged with the McCord Museum in 2013 and closed in 2021.

Stewart was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 1977 and an Officer of the Order in 1984, the year of his death.
