2026 Toronto Garrison Officers’ Ball - Welcome Address by Lieutenant-Colonel Adam West, Commanding Officer The Queen’s York Rangers (1st American Regiment)(RCAC), The Royal Regiment of Canada
/My name is Lieutenant-Colonel Adam West. As you can tell from my bright red scarlet mess dress, I am the commanding officer of The Queen’s York Rangers (1st American Regiment). In this capacity, I have the honour to welcome you to the 2026 Toronto Garrison Officers’ Ball.
This year’s ball carries the theme Building the Future on Centuries of Service.
The theme recognizes the role The Queen’s York Rangers played in building York—now Toronto—and greater Upper Canada, now Ontario. Just as today, the Rangers’ of old’s contributions to Canada extended beyond defence, helping to create the civic and physical foundations of the province.
The contribution is reflected in the streets named for Rangers - Simcoe (the first lieutenant governor), Yonge, and Dundas.
Over the years, the regiment has transformed, just as it transformed the province. Now is one such period of transformation.
I stand before you today as commanding officer of not only the Rangers but also The Royal Regiment of Canada. The two units have come together to form the York Garrison Tactical Group, with the objectives of growing both units, expanding our community footprint, and enhancing our training.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the ball planning committee and the Regimental Council. An event like this cannot be executed without the hard work of a great team. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, I think you all will agree, that this team, chaired by Captain Jon Davey have created a great event.
